A Note on Perseverance

Sometimes it takes a very long time to accomplish something that seems like it should be easy.

Like walking, dancing around, skiing, living life without crutches.

This is me with my awesome physical therapist, Jason, on the day I graduated from PT. You see, I had knee surgery back in October of last year, and have been working diligently on re-hab. I also had knee surgery in July of 2021. And March of 2021. And December of 2020.

That's right.

Four knee surgeries in about a year, the final one requiring seven months of PT.

But now I'm stronger than I've been in ages. It's kinda always leg day around here. And I'm looking forward to skiing next season, and doing a least a few laps with my hotshot son. (His insta is insane, though he isn't posting quite as often these days. And like mother, like son, he's had his own knee issues. https://www.instagram.com/roger_romani/?hl=en)

My writing journey has been a bit like physical therapy. I work hard. I work consistently. I try to bring grace and good humor to what I do. I'd rather encourage my neighbors than tear them down. I've learned to respect that today, I do what I can do today. It might not be as much as I want, or as good as I think it should be, but if I bring my best today and then show up again tomorrow, one of these days I'll get there.

And then you, my friends, will be able to read my writing. And if we're all lucky, you might find yourself enjoying it.
